There's a question we've been sitting with since we built Ohh: what happens right before someone opens up?
Not the moment they finally answer a deep question with a friend. The moment before that. The moment where they wonder — is this too much? Will they judge me? Do I even know what I actually think?
That in-between place — between wanting to connect and feeling ready to — is where so many people get stuck. And it's the place we built ohh Buddy for.
What is ohh Buddy?
ohh Buddy is a solo mode inside Ohh. Instead of exchanging cards with a friend, you play with one of two AI companions: Pip or Pop.
Pip is warm, a little playful, the kind of presence that makes you feel at home. Pop is thoughtful and curious — the kind who asks the follow-up question you didn't expect but needed. They're different personalities, built around the same idea: give you a real, considered response that makes you feel heard.
You pick a card. You answer it honestly. Your Buddy responds with their own perspective. No pressure, no judgment, no one on the other end waiting for you to say the right thing.
It's not about practising for friendship. It's about finding your voice — so that when you do share, it feels like you.
Why we built it
We heard the same thing from people who loved the idea of Ohh but hadn't quite started: “I don't know if I'm ready to send something that personal.”
And honestly? That makes sense. The questions in Ohh aren't small talk. They're real. What's something you've never told anyone? What do you wish people understood about you? Those questions deserve a moment of reflection before you share them with someone you care about.
ohh Buddy is that moment. A private room to sit with a question, answer it for yourself, and see what comes up — before you decide if you want to share it with anyone else.
ohh Buddy is free. Forever. Not a trial. Not a teaser. All 82 decks, both Pip and Pop, no time limits, no ads. We believe the warmup should never cost you anything.
What a session looks like
Open the app. Tap ohh Buddy. Choose Pip or Pop — you can switch anytime. Pick any deck from the full library. Draw a card.
Answer it. Type as little or as much as you want. When you're ready, send. Your Buddy reads what you wrote and responds — thoughtfully, in character, in a way that moves the conversation forward rather than just reflecting it back at you.
Some people use it to warm up before sending a Spark to a friend. Some use it when they want to think something through without the weight of being watched. Some just like having a space where they can be unfiltered.
All of that is exactly what it's for.
Pip & Pop are waiting
We spent a long time thinking about who Pip and Pop are — not just what they say, but how they make you feel. Pip leads with warmth. Pop leads with curiosity. Both of them take your answers seriously. Neither of them rush you.
They're not here to fix you or coach you or give you a framework. They're here to be in the conversation with you. That's it.
